Before you call
- Describe the clock: floor-standing, mantel, wall or cuckoo, and roughly how old.
- Look for a maker's name or model number on the dial, a label or the movement.
- Note what happens and when: stops after a few hours, chimes at the wrong time, won't wind.
- For a grandfather clock, ask whether it makes house calls or only takes the movement.
- Ask for a written estimate and the usual turnaround time.
